Standing Strong: Learning to Handle Peer Pressure

As part of our continuous commitment to student well-being, our C1 students participated in an engaging Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) workshop titled "Standing Strong: Learning to Handle Peer Pressure" on May 16, 2025. The session, conducted by our School Psychologist, Ms. Anam Amama, used real-life scenarios, discussions, and creative activities to help students explore the impact of peer pressure and how to respond to it confidently. Through one-word reflections, students shared their views, examined the difference between positive and negative pressure, and identified common reasons for giving in, such as fear of rejection. Students explored evidence-based strategies that include assertive communication, humour as a coping mechanism, and peer support networks to effectively navigate peer pressure. The session ended with a reflective activity encouraging students to commit to new ways of standing strong in challenging situations. This SEL workshop fostered resilience, enhanced self-awareness, and built confidence, empowering students to make independent and thoughtful decisions.

Save the Sparrows: Aitchison College's Mission to Protect a Vanishing Species

The Preparatory School, Aitchison College, in collaboration with the Departments of Art and Science, is on a mission to instill love and awareness for indigenous sparrows—a species now teetering on the brink of extinction. These small and harmless birds are disappearing at an alarming rate due to habitat loss, environmental changes, and increased vulnerability to predators.

To combat this crisis, our students have embarked on a meaningful initiative. They began by researching the challenges sparrows face in today’s rapidly changing world. Inspired by their findings, they took action—installing bird nests across the campus, advocating for the release of caged sparrows, and fostering a culture of empathy and environmental stewardship.

But their efforts didn’t stop there. To spread awareness and creativity, our students designed insightful comic strips depicting the sparrow’s life journey—its struggles, fading habitats, and most importantly, the hope for its survival. Through art, science, and true compassion, Aitchison College is nurturing a generation committed to protecting these beautiful birds before it’s too late. Join us in giving sparrows a chance to exist.
